Kevin Falcon Email Hints At Breakup of BC Liberal/Conservative Coalition

I don't like receiving emails telling me there are "7 Things You Need To Know". Got one today from the young Mr. Falcon. Besides other normal campaign stuff Kevin tosses in what appears to be a threat that I interpret as: "If you don't vote for me, the BC Liberal Party will be torn assunder by right-wingers who want to take it further to the right"...

I might be reading too much into it, but for those who don't believe me, here it is (note point #2 in particular):

Seven Things You Need To Know

Dear X,

With just eight days left until the February 4th membership sign-up deadline, it’s time for another edition ofKevin Falcon’s Seven Things You Need To Know This Week:

1. Pat Bell and Shirley Bond Endorsed Kevin Falcon
We were thrilled to have Pat Bell and Shirley Bond, two senior cabinet ministers from Prince George, join Team Falcon this week (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG_r1H3HO3c). They are a dynamic, outstanding team in Prince George and at the cabinet table.

2. Kevin is Building a Regional and Philosophical Coalition—The Only Way to Win an Election in BC

The endorsements of Pat and Shirley underscore an important point. The only time the NDP form government in this Province is when free enterprisers split their votes among more than one Party. To win the next election, we need a leader who can keep both our philosophical and regional coalitions together. Kevin Falcon is the only candidate who can do that. He has support from both federal Liberals and federal Conservatives, and support from every region of the Province. Our MLAs understand that, and that’s why they are choosing Kevin to lead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRIMwm9_STo).

While the BC Liberals may be a coalition of Center and Center Right politicians and their supporters, they have been fairly "centrist" in many of their policies (the HST and Carbon Tax are examples). Sure there are some MLAs who are federal Conservatives without a real home in BC (and "opportunity" is more important than sitting unelected as BC Conservatives), but for the most part they need to "play nice" and be part of the broad coalition.

With an election almost 4 years away, there isn't really any worry of the government unravelling. There is also plenty of opportunity to appeal to BC voters with visionary policy and moderate, centrist leadership.

Troubled economic times are ahead, and BC needs moderate visionary leadership to ensure the people and their jobs survive.

A very recent poll shows Mr. Falcon as being the least preferred choice for BC Voters to be leader of the Provincial Liberal Party. While the voting populace doesn't all get a say in the BC Liberal Leadership race, who they indicate they'll vote for is a telling tale - and indeed a warning to BC Liberals. A leader must be chosen wisely - with consideration for future voting repercussions. Straddling the center of the political spectrum is a good strategy for continued success.

Oh... One more thing: If people think they'd like to take the party "hard right", perhaps they are better off sitting as independents. Mr. Falcon doesn't need to hug them too tightly. 3-4 years as independents will certainly give them time to cool their heels.

The problem is Christy Clarke. She has very deep roots to the Federal Liberals and is left of the rest. Her win might not be enough to let the NDP win but it definately will split the BC-Liberal party.

BC needs to move to the center to survive the coming economic maelstrom...

Riden, Christy Clark does not have deep roots with the federal Liberal Party. Stephen Harper has deeper roots as he was a card carrying member.

Christy's favored by most BCers for a reason - she has the broadest appeal to the voters of BC.

Christy is surrounded by Federal Liberal hacks, starting with her brother, Bruce Clark. He worked on Martin & Dion’s campaigns, chaired the Laurier club, and his house was searched during the BC Rail investigation. Mark Marissen, Clark’s ex is as deep with the Federal Liberals as one can be. Even Mike McDonald, her current campaign manager worked on Bob Rae’s Liberal leadership campaign.
Every one of the people who surround her have deep Federal Liberal ties.

Name a Liberal who is close to Harper now.

Rainrider... you say that like it's a bad thing. A moderate voice fits BC. We don't need any NeoCon ultra-right hacks... We all have heard about what appear to be concerted Harper attacks on Christy's campaign... It's pretty obvious that Federal Reform-a-Tories - the furthest right wing of the CRAP support Falcon. Christy has support of the more moderate people in Ottawa.

Polls (all of them) continue to show Christy as THE choice for BC voters if an election were held today (not just the opinion of BC Liberal insiders). Falcon, on the other hand would apparently move the party right and allow the NDP to dominate the center (if they choose to move that way).

More push polls from her Federal Liberal friends.
If you listened to CKNW this morning, you'd hear Bill Good's straw poll on the leaders and despite his obvious cheerleading, more than half came out against Christy.
Keep in mind that those "Reform-a-Tories" are strong in BC.

ROFL... lol... lol... ROFL... Are you serious??? "Push polls" - not likely. The polls were actual scientific polls conducted by reputable polling organizations, and even by CTV (the Conservative Television Network)... And you actually have the diminutive logic to compare these to a "call-in" poll done by one of local radio's most conservative hosts - where the typical caller is angry, conservative, and... uhhh... angry...

Spin away but it's the party members who will choose their leader. I renewed my BC Liberal party membership just so I could vote against her.

ABC
Anyone But Christy.

... Ahhh... so you're one of those "party-breaker-uppers" who really should be part of the BC Conservative Party. See you later my friend - the "Anyone But Falcon" side will win out over any concerted effort to knock Christy out. Heck, both Mike and George are on the left of the party too - and would also be acceptable... BC Liberals want their party back - and we'll get it, thank you very much.

I'm shocked that Conservatives like you can lose so much face so as to be members of the "liberal" party. Wow. That's opportunism at it's finest. You know somethin' ain't right with those people...

You guys are going to be a rural-based, right-wing rump if your threats to break up the party are carried through.

WesternGrit said...

Oh yeah... Gotta love Gurmant Grewal running Kevin's Surrey/South Asian campaign... lol... There's integrity at it's finest! The Federal Cons are so scared of Christy they have been interfering in the campaign from the start from what we hear...

ridenrain said...

Why would they be interfering.. unless Christy was just Iggy in drag?
Like Iggy, she returns to take the top job and if she can't have it, she will vanish, never to be seen again.
She's a hollow Trojan hoarse filled with Eastern Liberal carpet baggers. The West dosen't need her.

ridenrain said...

While your at it.. why not ask how many other Liberals were involved in the BC Rail scandal?

WesternGrit said...

I don't know R, you're a BC Liberal... why don't you let us know?

Everyone I talk to likes and supports Christy Clark. I personally think she will be great for our province.
