Harper - climate change denier-in-chief - decides if China and Obama are going, he'd look the fool if he didn't join in.
Look for some meaningless statements from Harper: "We've tried so hard to solve this problem... but the (insert nation/group/target here) just weren't willing to come to the table..." Or... "This was a key step in the path to a solution" (that Canada did not even come close to leading on...)...
Canada has been dubbed in international pariah by nations serious about solving global warming/climate change. Let's hope the Harper Conservatives are shamed into acting by the Obama-effect/aura. Wishful thinking really. Harper (and more importantly - his base) have their lips firmly affixed to the base of every oil rig in Alberta.

Harper never said he wasn't going. What he said was if other heads of country's who are big polluters were going, he would then look at going and that is exactly what happened.
So our little 3% contribution to the worlds greenhouse gasses makes us an embarrassment to the rest of the world? China and India are not going to take part in any serious reductions of their own so this whole conference is going to be a colossal waste of time.
And please remind me again of how much Liberals contributed to reducing Canada's greenhouse gasses.

Canada was something like the 93rd nation to sign Kyoto under the Chretien gov't. You show frustration that Canada is not leading on this file but there is no evidence that they ever did.
The reality is there will not be a concensus in Copenhagen. Most nations including Canada have not met their targets and had no chance of doing so. New targets won't change that. Kyoto failed. Get over it. The Libs had their chance and they blew it.

A 3% reduction in the earth's greenhouse gases is a 3% REDUCTION... and a good start. Besides - not sure if you knew this - PER CAPITA Americans and Canadians are the guiltiest, most polluting people on earth. WE have to change our habits, our consumption (of everything), and our lifestyles, to help stop this threat.
Most morons on the right don't understand how global capitalism works (hence the recent economic connundrum). WE in the West offset not just our manufacturing to countries like India and China, but also our greenhouse gas production (which goes with the manufacturing we outsourced)... OUR CONSUMPTION "fuels" the economies of China and India. We play "high and mighty" now, but we still consume thousands of times the amount of fossil fuels and fuel produced products as the average Indian or Chinese.
As a "man of science" I have a deeper understanding of the science of global warming, BUT, my Grade 7 Health textbook, and my High School Biology courses - back in the 70s - had really good info on global warming. This is NOT a new science, or a fabrication. People who have a tough time understanding (or believing the basic truths of) science, don't seem to get it - even though they can believe fiction like the "world is only 5000 years old", or that "dinosaurs roamed the earth with man" (we all know who these religious zealots are - some of them currently run our country).
Oh... and the Indians were at the table LONG before us. The Chinese also beat us to the table. One of my uncles in India is a Professor who routinely does climate research in Antarctica. They are actually doing so much research on this over there. The daily newspapers have regular "Environment" sections - because people are quite obviously dying of pollution (bad air, bad water, tainted food)...
What I've seen of Canada's efforts amount to lip service (and that begins with the people)... While people in those countries recycle like crazy, and worry about the environment, a lot of Canadians act like exploiting nature is their "God-given right".

It is not a 3% reduction in the Earths GHG's,it is a 3% reduction in the manmade portion of total GHG's.Keep in mind the plan would never be to reduce Canadas output to 0 (I hope) so the net difference is negligible.And at what cost?
Through immigration our population will grow mybe 15% by 2020. Massive reductions seem very unlikely by Canada especially when the rest of the world NEEDS our lumber, steel, oil, food, gold etc.
Signing a deal is the easy part.

years of the Harpercrit regime while they sat on their backsides while promising solutions and doing nothing. That's what Harpercrit did to lower green gas emissions. Nothing Nada.Promoting more and doing dick all to even show that they had made any attempt to lower green gas pollution in Canada.

He can't even make a decision on his own to attend Unless, unless, unless etc. If I were you Prairie Kid, I would go to the library, open a book on pollution causes and how to do your part to stop it right now.There are a lot of material and video's on pollution. My advice, check it out while you can still breath.

Sorry KNB for the tirade but sometimes, these jokers bring out the worst in me. They can't even think for themselves and insist on defending a party that will eventually screw them all too but you can't make a blind person see if they don't want too.

How can we force the Conservatives hand on this issue? Or is the only option to force an election and take it to the people. The majority are on our side, we just need them to raise the volume of their voices.
