“People’s private lives are none of your business,” Bernier told the House, garnering a standing ovation and chumly pats on the back from Conservative members around him.
Ahead of the debate, Prime Minister Stephen Harper dismissed the reports as irrelevant to government business, calling Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion and Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe "gossipy old busybodies."
"I hear one of my cabinet ministers has an ex-girlfriend," Harper said. "It’s none of my business. It's none of Mr. Duceppe's business. It's none of Mr. Dion's business."

Here come the hidden agenda themes again . . . another Liberal crying "the sky is falling". Of far greater security concern to me is Dion not giving up his French citizenship. That is a security risk.
Or wether they use daycare or homecare, or which law abiding citizens have firearms that won't fire on their own, or which religion the leader of our country is, etc, etc.
What hidden agenda theme? It's pretty clear in the post... I'm saying that the Con's are no more "moral" than anyone else... People who live in glass houses... etc., etc.
It doesn't have to be partisan boys...
Ok. I agree that I almost swallowed by own tongue when I saw Van Loan use "The state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation" quote. I also agree that Bernier is a complete lightweight. I think that he should be mercilessly made fun of on the blogs, on Mercer and in the ever so pointless Taber columns. That being said, I don't think that this former biker babe is a major security problem. I also don't think that it deserved the wall to wall questions from the Liberal and Bloc caucuses. This morning I am proud to be an NDPer since it was Jack who stood in QP yesterday and demanded the Cons address the growing income gap, something that actually affects most Canadians. Once again it is the NDP that is offering real opposition to Harper and his crew and their agenda.

LOL whatever. The Liberal party shamelessly attacks a Tory MP's personal life and you say it doesn't have to be partisan?!
How about your party actually, you know, offers up even one policy announcement instead of this constant, ever increasingly desperate scandal mongering?
Thanks for that last sensible line Kai... In reply, I'd have to say that when Mr. Dion came out with policy, policy, and more policy in the first few months of his leadership he was ATTACKED mercilessly for "not being a leader". Your party also spent the better part of 5yrs in Parliament - in Opposition - doing nothing but attacking the credibility of a whole party when a few peons were f'ing up in Quebec.
The Liberal Party worked hard to talk sensibly about the environment when Harper killed the Liberal Plan (without letting it take any effect), then renamed some parts of that plan with lesser funding, and far fewer controls, and dubbed it out to the public. The party also worked hard to address Canadians' concerns about Afghanistan... But then those wonderful attack ads were there, weren't they?
Now the shoe's on the other foot - and it fits nicely? Shades of Mulroney?
I should also add, that I agree that it is fun to have a little fun with people like Bernier - BUT, I totally disagree with what he's faced in the past week. In true "Trudeau-esque" form, I have to believe - without any exception - that the state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation. If she had ties to the gang - AND if she IS/WAS a target - then sure, the questions are okay - since she is a risk to the lives of one of our Cabinet Ministers, which IS a security threat. I think the Minister's office quashed the question by stating clearly that there are no more ties there...
