Le Devoir Notes How Harper Has Distorted Afghan Mission Costs

The huge cost overrun by the Conservatives in the Afghan mission - more accurately, the deception employed to cover up the costs - is the focus of the main story on the Le Devoir website.

Yes, Canadians are concerned when a "government" tells you something will cost $8.1 Billion, tries to cover up the release of the report indicating what the expenses actually would be ($18 Billion), says the report details aren't clear, then tries to change the channel with cheap shots at another leader...

Oh yeah... and Harper doesn't think this is a "peace-making", or "peace-keeping" mission, rather he calls it an "invasion". Tsk, tsk...

I wonder if anyone has actually read the report

the war thus far has cost between 7.7 and 10.5 billion

within Harpers estimate of 8 billion

It will cost 18.1 billion by 2011, including the original 7.7 to 10.5 billion.

That is far from unreasonable.

the media hasnt been reporting this right at all...

then again the media hasnt been reporting anything right these days
